About Julius Nglass

The son of an Anglican clergyman, the late Most Reverend Emmanuel E Nglass (Archbishop Emeritus) and Lady Adela Nglass, Julius became involved in music as a choirboy at the tender age of 6. Living in the parsonage, it was only natural to be engaged in the choir at such a young age. At age 8, he was already an assistant organist of the parish church, serving under various music maestros including the late music icon – Prof Sam Akpabot.

Widely recognised for his awe inspiring tenor and as one of Nigeria’s leading opera singers. Julius was inspired by the works of the late Luciano Pavarotti and Andrea Bocelli and has developed and interpreted various classical songs with his brilliance and ingenuity. He was the first classical singer to feature at THE EXPERIENCE – the largest gospel concert in Africa.

A multi-instrumentalist who plays various instruments proficiently including the violin, guitar, drums, piano and his favourite – the organ.  In 2009, he started the Church Organ Project in a bid to see his favourite instrument – the classical organ- take centre stage in uplifting God’s name in churches across Nigeria. Widely acknowledged as one of the best church organists in Nigeria, he also had various programmes through which he transfers his knowledge and experience to the aspiring and younger generation.

In pursuit of his passion for clear and intelligent sound (re)production, Julius, leveraging on his in-depth knowledge of sound technology and engineering established MUSIC AND SPEECH Nig. Ltd, whose core business is concerned with providing professional audio solutions using ingenious and innovative technologies.

In a quest to broaden his musical and technical skills, Julius has taken professional courses locally and abroad notably in Austria, The Netherlands and Germany. A graduate of Agricultural Economics from the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), he was the choirmaster and organist of Anglican Chapel of Light, FUTO throughout his study period. He was also the university’s resident accompanist for more than three years.

Ikachuemi as he is fondly called by family, has an affinity for gadgets. He enjoys travelling, photography and the company of friends and family.  In spite of the fact that he is from a musical family, Julius sees his musical talent as a very special gift from God, and a tool to extol His name.
