We started our litter-picking group in late January. As you can imagine the weather then was atrociously wet, but luckily we had an hour of dry weather! Angela and Amanda covered the area along Cold Bath Road towards the school and then towards the cemetery, whilst Gareth and Val did Broadway towards the rugby club, and I managed the Broadwalk Road and Lansdowne Drive.

I have been in touch with Nathan Jones (KeepWalesTidy). He informed me they have a national event called Spring Clean Cymru from 13th to 29th March and wondered if we would be prepared to do a Caerleon Village litter pick on a couple of days during that period.

Visit the St Cadoc’s Litter Pickers page for contact details if you’d like to join us in giving Caerleon a fresh look for Spring!

An engaging and informative presentation was given by Cadw this evening.

A major excavation in Priory Field, carried out between 2007 and 2010, produced groundbreaking new evidence for Caerleon’s rich Roman and early ‘post-Roman’ history.

Monmouthshire Antiquarian Association President, Jeremy Knight, made an introduction, followed by one of the excavation’s directors, Dr Peter Guest, who highlighted some of the Priory Field project’s most significant discoveries

Some photos from this evening (full video below):

A video of the full talk can be viewed below. Programme for the evening is as follows:-

  • Introduction (Jeremy Knight, President of MAA)
  • Digging Roman Caerleon: The Priory Field Excavation (Dr Peter Guest)
  • Questions (Jeremy Knight to chair, Prof. Andrew Gardner (online) and Dr Peter Guest)
  • Caerllion Rufeining - Roman Caerleon Gateway Partnership (Dai Price, Amgueddfa Cymru and Brett Childs, Caerllion Rufeining - Roman Caerleon Gateway Partnership Advocate)
